Happy 4th of July!!

American FlagTraditions can be the anchors in our lives, and very few are better than those surrounding the 4th of July. Brilliant fireworks, hot dogs, parades – all the elements that make the day a spectacular summer holiday. It’s also another one of those times that allows us to ground our change efforts in something more than warm thoughts and pleasant feelings.

HeroIt’s a great time to pause and remember all the things that make this country great. I read a quote this week that said it’s the one holiday where we don’t need to worry about political correctness. It’s a time to celebrate all of the different elements that cause us to come together as one – E Pluribus Unum – Out of Many One. Different people all bring different talents to situations and the 4th of July is a great time to rejoice in those talents!

Talent is just a piece of the picture. The strength of any change effort is the ability to build from a strong base. Traditions like holidays help reinforce the base of our beliefs and values. They help us realign and reenergize our efforts around our strongest cores by providing a break from the regular grind of our day-to-days lives. That time and distance make it possible to sharpen our efforts and make it possible to create breakthrough performances.

FireworksEnjoy the 4th! Set off the fireworks and have a burger for me. While you’re enjoying the weekend, think about the way you build your base and how you will use it during the coming months to create your own change for the better!
